If you would have asked us four years ago what major changes were on the horizon for the restaurant business, we would never have guessed remote work would be the biggest.

Suddenly, Zoom meetings and work-from-home has become the norm, flinging workers to the suburbs. Across the continent, office buildings and the downtowns that house them are sitting empty, and many seem to have forgotten the power of the business lunch.

So, to help you remember what a good business lunch can do for you, we’re going to take a page out of David Letterman’s book and list the top five reasons why nothing can touch an IRL business lunch.

The top 5 reasons we won’t give up on business lunches

You can’t shake hands virtually – The days of shaking on a deal are long gone, but that doesn’t mean that the value of meeting in person, looking the other person in the eye and ending the meeting with a handshake

Zoom – Nothing quite sums up the magic and annoyance of technology quite like Zoom. When it works, it’s miraculous, when it doesn’t, you end up like the cat lawyer, blundering through important meetings while trying to assure the person on the other end that you are indeed a human (and not a cat).

There’s something about sharing food – We may be biased on this one, but we believe there is no better way to communicate or bond than over food (and drinks). From the dinner table as a child, to your first date or that big deal, sharing a meal with conversation builds relationships.

It’s hard to trust someone if you don’t even know if they have pants on – This one pretty much speaks for itself. If you don’t know they’re wearing pants, what else are you in the dark about?

The unmatchable energy of a restaurant – When you’re working, there’s nothing better than silence. But, when you’re meeting someone new, or creating excitement for a big deal, the energy and ambiance of a good restaurant is the perfect setting for making moves.

Giving back with the business lunch

The most important part of any business lunch is the connection it builds. So, we’re partnering with YouthOne to create even more connections with every business lunch at the Water Tower.

A portion of the proceeds from each of their lunches will go towards purchasing lunch for kids at Youth One. Plus, we’ll even include a free dessert to go along with your lunch.

Make your reservation today to ensure you create connections with your clients, and help YouthOne connect youth with mentors.
